Lars Bohman Gallery is proud to present Jonathan Lasker, The 80’s – an international touring exhibition through London, Stockholm and Berlin. The exhibition summarizes Jonathan Laskers work in the 1980’s and contains several important works from this vibrant period.
Jonathan Lasker is widely regarded as one of the most influential abstract painters in the United States. His dialectic approach bridges the gap between Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism.
In his work Lasker explores painting in terms of it's most basic elements: colour, line, texture and form, and deals with the complexity and the complementarity of the figure - ground relationship.
The exuberance and playfulness of his paintings play with the viewer’s expectations and preconceptions. Seemingly spontaneous and impulsive, they are, in fact, the result of a demanding method of preparatory stages; the compositions are meticulously worked out in advance in small-scale detailed sketches and studies, before being transposed on to often large-scale canvases.
Jonathan Lasker got his artistic training at The California Institute of Art (1977) and at The School of Visual Arts in New York (1975-1977). He has exhibited extensively all over the world including The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Holland, Chelsea Art Museum, New York, LA Louver, Los Angeles, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Saltzburg, Austria, Cheim & Reed Gallery, New York, Tibor de Nagy, New York, Galerie Thomas Schulte, Berlin and Timothy Taylor Gallery, London. He is represented in several public collections, including Museum of Modern Art, New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany and Moderna Museet, Stockholm
The show has been on view at Timothy Taylor Gallery in London and will travel on to Galerie Thomas Schulte in Berlin. A catalogue is produced in conjunction with the show.
