Bjarne Melgaard’s exhibition ‘Past Tense’ at Galleri Lars Bohman shows drawings dating from 1995-2000. The drawings were found last year in a cardboard box that was thought to have been lost in a fire. Looking through it Bjarne Melgaard decided to exhibit them. Some are elements from past installations, others individual works.

Bjarne Melggard recently shifted focus in his work and now he is primarily painting and drawing for a project for Bergen Kunsthalle. He is reworking older installations by covering them in Xerox copies or in printed fabrics. From working with producing new work he is now attempting to rearticulate his older work as a kind of distant mistake or moving to more easygoing pieces.

Proclomation on an attitude towards the past art productions as a position between the readymade and a non-productive production. The re-articulation of past installations. The realization of one’s previous art practice as a failure or mistake. To re-circulate and add to the old work instead of producing new objects etc.

Bjarne Melgaard is currently developing ideas and exhibition possibilities with, among others, Daniel Buchholz Gallery in Cologne, Greene Naftali in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris and Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo.

Bjarne Melgaard was born 1967 in Sydney, Australia. He lives and works in Berlin
